Our adventure begins with an early morning departure from Warsaw, heading far east into the countryside of Podlasie. Upon arrival in Kruszyniany, we step into the past with a guided tour of the historic wooden mosque, a testament to the enduring legacy of the Tatar community in Poland. We’ll hear captivating stories about their settlement, resilience, and contributions to Polish culture.
Next, after enjoying a coffee in the local surroundings, we’ll travel to Bohoniki, another charming Tatar village where we’ll visit the Bohoniki Mosque and its adjacent Mizar (cemetery). Here we’ll learn about the spiritual traditions and rituals of this vibrant community.
After all that visiting we’ll stop for a lunch break in a Tatar restaurant to experience the authentic Tatar cuisine. Feast on traditional dishes like pierekaczewnik (a layered pastry) and try refreshing kompot or kwas. The flavors will transport you to another era, offering a taste of Tatar hospitality.
On our way back to Warsaw (if time allows) we’ll do a little detour to the The Land of Open Shutters – a picturesque village where we’ll admire a unique architectural craftsmanship.
The rest of the ride back will be a chance to reflect on the day’s experiences, enriched by the stories and landscapes of Poland’s Tatar heritage.
